ResilientCE Helps Kingston, MA Secure Grant to Improve Water Sustainability

Resilient Civil Engineering, P.C. (ResilientCE) is proud to be part of the team to secure a Water Management Act (WMA) Program Grant for the Town of Kingston Water Department, Kingston, Massachusetts to improve water sustainability. The WMA Grant Program is highly competitive and the Town is one of only six applicants to be awarded a WMA Grant in 2024.  ResilientCE assisted with preparation of the grant application and will be involved with completion of the project.

This project will continue the Town’s ongoing efforts to balance the public water supply operations with the need to improve environmental health and streamflows. During 2023, the Water Department implemented a moratorium on new water service connections until such time as an additional source of water supply is available. The project includes a water source capacity evaluation which is needed for the Town to continue to meet the needs of its existing customers and to provide water supply to new Town customers who will otherwise need to obtain water from private sources of supply. The preference is to be able to provide Town public water supply but the Town has a responsibility to protect the water supply for its existing customers before committing to serve new customers, therefore, completion of this proposed project is critical and urgent.  The project also includes a water rate study involving review of the existing rate structure and evaluating how best to increase rates to meet current and future revenue needs, while encouraging water conservation and fiscally sustainable.
