America’s Water Infrastructure Act (AWIA) was signed into law in October 2018. Through the AWIA, public water suppliers will be required to conduct resiliency and risk assessments and to update emergency response plans. The EPA will be issuing tools, resources and procedures for water system compliance with these requirements. Dates for completion of these plans will depend on system size, with larger system deadlines occurring as soon as March 2020 and medium systems serving 3,300 to 50,000 people due by June 2021.

Right now, there’s not much information provided and the more information link leads to the Bill. I read through it so you don’t have to. Generally, the assessments will need to include evaluation of hazards, infrastructure resiliency, operations and fiscal sustainability. EPA has until August 1, 2019 to provide more guidance about these assessments. Please keep in mind that ResilientCE is available to assist you in achieving compliance with these requirements. I will provide updates as more information is released.
